ECO2Clouds in a nutshell

ECO2Clouds (Experimental Awareness of CO2 in Federated Cloud Sourcing) is a project supported by the FP7 program of the European Commission. The overall goal is the introduction of ecological concerns while developing cloud infrastructures or cloud-based applications.
Examples of ecological concerns are energy efficiency or CO2 footprint.

The overall goal of the project is to advance scientific knowledge and technical artifacts, in order to couple the functional and economic advantages of cloud computing with measures aiming at a more careful dealing with the environment.

The results of the project will be beneficial for world society in general (paving the ground for a more careful balancing of technical progress with environment concerns), for Europe (providing advanced knowledge), for enterprises (providing guidelines and tools) and users (providing better understanding and tools).
The results  include models, architectures, SW tools, design methodologies and guidelines. These results have been validated through challenging case studies, and the BONFIRE project specifically.

The project started in October 2012 and completed in September 2014. It has been organized in an iterative cycle, so that after the first deployment available after one year, following the  first validation  a new improved version in the following 12 months has been realized.
Scientific and industrial dissemination will ensure the wide circulation of the results.
